Ice Cream Food Porn

My friend Lori Bee introduced me to the concept of food porn-posting sumptuous photos of food, and by doing so sharing your meal with the world and likely making your followers jealous at the same time: win-win.

I have dabbled in this a bit, but I am a Lean Cuisine gal, and now that the winter wrappers are being peeled off, this little tomato is going to be getting involved more heavily with Maya’s salad-at-night trick than hanging out at the red-light district of seductive food. My stomach is already aching from the crunches that I should be doing.

So when I pulled in to the Dunkin Donuts for a Lite Latte, I barely noticed the Baskin-Robbins section- really- until I looked over at my college-age daughter, and could see that she was hoping I’d suggest she get a little ice cream. We walked over together, looked into the case where the ice cream was displayed, and she chose a low-fat no-added-sugar type that was pineapple and coconut flavored.

I must have been observing the scooping process with a tad too much interest, because Mary Beth behind the counter said to me, “This is great tasting ice cream.” That didn’t surprise me, but then she went on, describing how there was no added sugar, and on top of that it was low fat. Damn! I thought to myself. This is doable.

And you know what? It was more than doable. I never would have ordered that ice cream without interacting with Mary Beth. Mary Beth was no Bon Qui Qui, although their level of investment in the company was the same. She also was not hard-sell in her approach- she was personable and freely gave out information without acting overwhelming. I felt like asking her if she had ever considered going into real estate- she would be a good buyer’s agent.

So anyway- the ice cream WAS very good. It was very creamy (surprising, given its low-fat status), sweet but not too sweet with discernible pieces of pineapple and shreds of coconut. Just look:
