The Story of HeyAmaretto
Once upon a time, it was the week before Christmas. Diane was alone in the office; everyone else was out Christmas shopping, but she had a closing or two that she was pushing through.
She had a little bottle of Amaretto and some very nice vanilla cookie eggnog, but the eggnog ran out! Desperately, she asked some other agents from her office to please bring some more of that very delicious eggnog to the office.
She thought that the most expedient way to send out this request was by Facebook. She felt that she was sufficiently below the radar so that only the intended parties would notice her plea.
Alas, she was wrong. The Zipvoboys picked up on this interchange. A month later- at Inman Connect NYC- she met @zipvopatrick. @zipvopatrick heard her name and this apparently triggered a memory of that eggnog-deprived day. “Hey, Amaretto!”, he shouted. “Do you mind if I call you that?” Diane was surprised that anyone recalled the Facebook conversation; it must have been a touch more colorful than she realized- and of course she did not mind what she thought would be a temporary nickname.
But @zipvopatrick called her that the entire conference. Diane started thinking…she had a difficult last name- people couldn’t pronounce it, let alone spell it. This nickname was fun and easy to remember, and if you messed up the spelling you could Google it. A couple days after she got back, she started using it.
Diane was reminded of the tiny times in life when you need to pay attention because the road is always turning when you least expect it. Then she said to herself, “Stop analyzing things so much, get on the computer and learn how to tweet and blog.”
And she did.

This is one of the best blog posts I’ve read in a long time. So many people refuse to be “branded” in this way. (I am one of those people.) But many times a “signature” just happens, most likely when we least expect.
I always thought your name had something to with you being a fan of the original Apprentice TV show. oh wait, that’s Hey Omorosa!!!!

Thank you, Kathleen!
Morriss, some people have a little pirate in them. I suspect I might have a tiny bit of Omorosa, without the drama!

HeyAmaretto- I was going to ask you about this at rebcsf but never got the chance!
Great story, and a truly great tip about paying attention to the little twists and turns that life offers!
I’m glad that we got a chance to meet F2F.

Hey Jerry- I am so glad we got to meet too! The time in this city was far too brief- I didn’t see the city itself. It is so different being here for a conference than it would be if I were vacationing. Glad you liked my little story! -D

I love that you are HeyAmaretto!
Lucky for me, HeyGrappa never really caught on.

I like the name better than my given one- it’s less serious, less Capricornish. HeyGrappa- you know you are going to hear that somewhere, don’t you? ;)

Isn’t it funny how things happen?
My story is not quite as delicious sounding: house bag…mom of 6….real estate investor…serial remodeler & flipper….broke RE investor & builder….blogger named The Mayor.
