Massachusetts Real Estate Blog, Shirley MA Realtor
My poor little neglected blog.
I’ve been crazy-busy lately. I read somewhere that busy-ness grows to fill your days, and that seems true. It’s the same as money- it doesn’t matter how much you have, it’s never enough. Have you ever heard of someone turning down a raise, unless there was a potentially bigger payoff in doing so? (cough*publicity*cough)
But I think this is true busy-ness. I read that multitasking was a truly inefficient way of dealing with a schedule, and there is some truth in this, perhaps. I am wondering if you can take all of the variables out to make a judgment regarding this. And honestly? Nearly every real estate sales agent that I know has ADD. Most find that their productivity shoots up to the next level once the hire an efficient assistant, so you often see a pleasant form of symbiosis in busy offices or with busy teams.
Multitasking. It’s not a choice sometimes- it’s a way of life. As a single mother without an awful lot of support, I find myself multitasking by necessity, not by choice. At the grocery store yesterday on the way home from my open house, I had two children texting me, boss texting me, a call from a friend that I let roll over to voice mail, all the while trying to wing it without a list. I forgot the cream cheese, but remembered toilet paper. It’s all about priorities- and I should have brought a list.
Lists save me. I start each day by making a list of the unusual projects I need to complete and use it to augment the schedule that I have made. The schedule is color coded and time-blocked from 6 AM to 9 PM. I wish I was driven enough to stick with it the way I should, but as it is, it keeps me pretty on-track. Every half hour or so I look at it and if I have deviated too far, it sets me back on my path.
In essence, my lists and schedule are time-budgets. The same way I have imposed a finance budget on the household, I am trying to squeeze every minute out of my day.
So why do I feel like taking a nap? :)
